The beaches in the area all have their own Charm, Character and uses. Surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, or alternating between bobbing in the ocean and reading a book. There really are enough spacious (and not populated) beaches in the area to satisfy anyone's needs.
The Jungle walk in Cahuita
This is something for everyone. You can hire a guide or walk on your own along a wide nicely maintained jungle path in Cahuita National Park. I have seen many animals on my numerous trips to the park. The scenery is breathtaking. Each time I go it has been like a brand new experience. Each time I am done with the tour, I vow to return for another adventure!
The Jaguar Rescue Sanctuary
This is an animal rescue center nearby that specializes in the rescue and rehbalitation of animals in need. Their service is invaluable to the community and species here.
Many of the animals brought to the center are injured or motherless. It is the goal of the santuary to eventually return as many animals as possible to the wild. You never know what you will see at the sanctuary because the amount of wildlife here is truely unbelievable.
The Jaguar Center is run from donations, so bring some extra cash to help the cause.
I always consider Manzanillo a day trip. Go early and walk a newly manicured park trail with with a stunning lookout situated atop a natural land bridge. You will want to be done with the walk to relax during the heat of the day.
The government has recently upgraded the whole park and what used to be a muddy sandal sucking adventure... is now a leisurley walk with easy steps to climb and a wooden bridge leading to a fenced in observation point.
On the way back stop for lunch and a beverage of choice at Maxi's. Then hit the beach. It is a calm warm ocean perfect for a relaxing swim!
